Below you will find all the pertinent information regarding the rules and components of each contest. If you have questions please email or call.

Agronomy
​HOST: Osawatomie (Brandt)​
This contest follows the state contest and guidelines and usually contains the following portions:
       - 100 Plant Identification
       - 3 Grain Grading
       - 3 Seed Analysis
This is all subject to change based on changes made at the state and national levels.
Tiebreakers:

ENTOMOLOGY
​HOST: Perry-Lecompton (Anguiano)
Four members constitute a team and three will count for team scores.​
The contest will consist of the following areas:
       -50 Identification (Real Specimens and Photos)
       -50 Question General Knowledge Exams

FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Host: Paola (Menefee)​
All four team members and related teams must report to the designate room at the same time. Three scores count for a team score

CDE will consist of one multiple choice test that will test students knowledge on basic agricultural economic concepts, agricultural business, financial documents and current events. There will be problem solving questions that will require a non-programmable calculator. 
     
Participants will have 90 minutes to complete the test.

       -Problem Solving Questions

FLORICULTURE
HOST: Spring Hill (Hampton)
Team will consist of four members with the top three scores counting for the team score.
CDE Will Consist of:
Plant Identification: 50 total (3 points/plant for 150 total points) 
       -Using the Kansas State Floriculture CDE Identification Sheet 
Practicums (4 points each for 100 total points)
       -Floral arrangement questions
       -Tool Identification Questions (using National FFA Tool Id List)
       -Pests Identification (using Kansas FFA List)
        -Diseases/Disorders (using Kansas FFA List)
Exam: 50 questions (2 points each for a total of 100 points
350 total points possible for the Floriculture CDE

FOOD SCIENCE
​HOST: Paola (Menefee)
Teams will consist of four members with three counting for the team score.

CDE will consist of:
     -Written Test
          -50 Questions (2 pts each)
          -May Cover Any Aspect of Food Science
     -Triangle Test
          -2 Triangle Test (10 pts each)
          -Students must use their senses to determine which product is different
     -Aromas
          -4 Aromas (5 pts each)
          -A list of aromas will be provided to each student.
     -Customer Inquiry Problems
           -5 Scenarios Representing Customer Inquiries
           -Participants must determine if the customer inquiry reflects a quality or
            safety issue (2 pts each)
           -Determine if the inquiry is a biological, chemical or physical concern or
            hazard (2 pts each)
          -20 Points Total
     -Problem Solving/Math Practicum
​          -Contestants will answer a series of 5 mathematical calculations based on
           common food science themes
          -5 pts each; 25 pts total

Tiebreakers:
       -1st: Written Exam
       -2nd: Problem Solving
       -3rd: Customer Inquiry​
MEATS
​HOST: Paola (Menefee and Schull)
Teams will consist of four members with three counting for the team score.

CDE will consist of:
       -30-40 Retail Cut Identification
       -4-6 Wholesale or Retail Placing Classes
       -2 Sets of Questions, 5 Questions Per Set
       -10 Quality Grading Steaks
       -6 Yield Grading Ribeyes Done with "to scale" pictures (HCW and KPH will
         be given to contestants)

Tiebreakers:
       -1st: ID
       -2nd: Placings Classes
       -3rd: Questions

LIVESTOCK
​​HOST: Paola (Schull)
Teams will consist of four members with three counting for the team score.
Four Divisions Will Be Offered:
       -Senior: 3 Sets of Reasons
       -Intermediate: 2 Sets of Reasons
               -Freshmen or Younger To Compete As An Intermediate
      -Junior: 1 Set of Reasons and 1 Set of Questions
              -10 years old (as of Jan. 1) or younger
              -If not enough to warrant day of contest they may move to either           
               Intermediate or Novice
      -Novice: No Reasons or Questions
             -7 years old (as of Jan. 1) or younger
CDE will consist of:
     -Cattle (Heifers/Bulls)
     -Pigs (Gilts/Market)
     -Sheep (Ewes/Market)
     -Goats (Does/Market)
     -Classes offered will depend on availability of stock.
     -Performance Classes Are Possible
Tiebreakers:
       -1st: Total Reasons Score
       -2nd: Highest Individual Score on Reasons

MILK QUALITY
HOST: Olathe West (Milholm)
Teams of four with top three counting for team score.
​Our contest each year usually contains the following areas of the contest:
       -Milk Flavor
       -Cheese Id and Characteristics
       -Dairy and Non-Dairy Identification with Milk Fat Content
       -CMT
       -30 Question General Knowledge Exam: Uses the past 5 National Exams
       -Problem Solving Exam

This is all subject to change based on changes made at the state and national levels. Final components will also depend on what the host school is able to put together. 

NURSERY/LANDSCAPE
HOST: Paola
Same as other events; four people per team with top three counting.
The Nursery Landscape Contest at the ECD usually contains the following parts:
● 50 Plant ID - Using the Kansas State List
● Practicum ID - Which could include the following topics:
     ○ Equipment/Supplies
     ○ Pest
     ○ Diseases
     ○ Beneficial Insects
     ○ Physiological Problem
     ○ Weeds
● 50 Question General Knowledge Exam

POULTRY
HOST: K-State (Dr. Beyer)
Teams of four with top three counting for team score.

The contest is usually a complete contest that contains the following classes:
Hens Placing Class, Broilers Placing Class, Carcass Placing Class, Parts Grading, Parts Identification, Exterior Egg Grading, Interior Egg Grading, Further Processed Poultry Products Bone In, Further Processed Poultry Products Bone Out, General Knowledge Exam, and a Team Activity.

There will be no Oral Reasons.

VET SCIENCE
HOST: Louisburg (Mr. Morgan)
General Information about the ECD Contest-
● There will only be 1 session of this contest
● Each team can have up to 6 members with the top 3 scores counting
○ Teams with less than 3 members participating will only do so for
individual awards
● Participants should provide their own #2 pencils AND calculator to be
used during this contest
Contest Components -
● Written General Knowledge Exam: 50 multiple choice questions
● Procedural Practicum: The clinical and handling practicum will be a list of
procedural steps and the students will put the steps to that procedure in
the correct order
● Identification: 50 various equipment, parasites/microscopic ID, and
breeds/species samples. The current National FFA CDE ID list will be used
● Math Practicum: Questions may cover conversions, dose calculations,
dilutions, cost calculations, invoices, feed rations or feed interpretation,
ect.
● Anatomy and Physiology: Identification of various animal system parts.
